Rethink your Marketing.

Rethink breast cancer. Rethink your marketing. This is seriously the greatest thing. Ever. (and not just because there’s hot half naked man in it).

Crowdsourced Ideas from MLADLA12

  • in one public library, meeting rooms are free but they come with a “commercial announcement.” Each month, different staff are assigned to welcome groups to the meeting room and give them an elevator speech that pitches why the library can be of use to them!
  • have a new media day for teens and give them the space, tech, and time to create new content! partner with local vendors!
  • a public library took their book sale outside on a beautiful summer day. It didn’t increase their sales any, but increased their visibility and was good for the soul!
  • At Towson University in Maryland, they asked people to create a love note to the library! They had 132 <3’s and they taped them all to the entry wall for all to see. “People love crafts!”
  • have trouble getting people to your gaming events? Hold a tournament with a popular game and invite EVERYONE!
  • The librarians at the University of Maryland set up shop in the food court between 11am and 1pm with super results! Get outside your building!!

Thanks to everyone who joined us at MLA/DLA this year!

Crowdsourced Ideas from CIL2012

These are the fantastic ideas our audience shared with us during the presentation at #CILDC 2012:

  • Have customers that their library books on vacation and take photos of themselves or their books wherever they go!
  • "Kindles, cookies & cocoa": supply cookies and cocoa and have a downloading party, kindle support, or training or anything else!
  • Try a “flat stanley" idea with your library card!
  • collaborate with your media students and create a horror film in the stacks!
  • one library has a big stuffed dog that they would move to a new location each day - they thought it would be a kick for the kids, but the adults always want to know where the dog is today!

Thanks everyone for participating! If you have ideas to share, please do!
